Deadlights is probably our most radio-friendly song on this EP. And Lizzy wrote most of it, though it was a collaborative effort with everyone putting their own ideas into it here and there. It marks a more collaborative songwriting era of Tracing Wires. The synth was a nice touch as well.
I wrote the lyrics just before the 2016 election and were inspired by a Cracked article that was put out around that time, explaining how half the country got to supporting Trump and basically saying that no matter the outcome of the election, those people will still be who they are. Unfortunately, we have to coexist. We're all sharing a country and planet despite our differences. -Tim
lyrics
Unfortunately, we have to coexist
So you should come to terms with it
Your friends and neighbors, your coworkers
Are all linked regardless of belief
All you love
They are connected, connected, connected, connected to you
All you hate
They are connected, connected, connected, connected to you
You can't ignore them, you can't avoid them
Eventually you interact with them
Your echo chamber, preach to the choir
Your comfort zone will someday disappear
And we'll all meet underground
'Cause we all have this in common
We all float down here
We all float down here
Day after day, year after year, headed towards a common exit
We all float down here
You had a nightmare, you're not the only one
The darkness is not uniquely yours
You'll find an answer within your nightmares
You'll learn things you do not want to know
Everyone
They are connected, connected, connected, connected to you
We all float down here
We all float down here
Day after day, year after year, headed towards a common exit
We all float down here
Death is our only uniting factor
Until we find another we can only suffer
Death is out only uniting factor
Until we find another, we'll only suffer!
We all float down here
We all float down here
Day after day, year after year, headed towards a common exit
We all float down here
Unfortunately, we have to coexist
So you should come to terms with it...
